Sensory Restaurant on Wheels
Co-organised by the Maryknoll Medical and Welfare Association, the Young Women’s Christian Association, Project Futurus, and the Maryknoll Convent School Mentorship Programme Organising Committee, the Sensory Restaurant on Wheels event was successfully held on 27 March 2026.
Student mentees, together with their alumna mentors, stepped into the roles of staff in a traditional Chinese restaurant, serving delicacies and warmly engaging with residents of an elderly home in Sham Shui Po.
For over two hours, participants prepared meals, shared conversations, and joined in dance and music, creating treasured memories for both the seniors and the volunteers. The event also shed light on age-related health challenges such as dementia and swallowing difficulties, while fostering joy and connection that uplifted spirits and left lasting impressions.
By the end of the day, participants gained valuable caregiving experience, deeper empathy, and stronger awareness of the struggles faced by senior citizens. The event not only strengthened intergenerational bonds but also encouraged Maryknollers to continue serving with compassion, promoting patience and understanding — within our homes, our community, and the wider world.
