Lighting the Way: ARUP Workshop Inspires Our Students

18/01/2025

Our students, alongside four teachers and the principal, recently had the privilege of participating in an inspiring workshop hosted by ARUP, a global organisation of designers, engineers, and technical experts dedicated to shaping a more sustainable world. The event was made even more special by the presence of our distinguished alumna, Ms Florence Lam, a world-renowned lighting expert and a true inspiration in her field. Her motivational closing speech left a profound impact, encouraging our students to pursue their passions with creativity, dedication, and a sense of purpose.

Held on 18 January (Saturday), the workshop offered a rich blend of learning experiences. Participants delved into ARUP’s groundbreaking lighting projects, participated in hands-on experiments to measure lighting, and engaged in a DIY lighting workshop. These activities not only provided practical knowledge but also sparked creativity and honed technical skills.

The day also included two memorable tours. The first was a visit to the M+ Museum, where students explored the intersection of art, design, and technology, gaining a deeper appreciation for the role of creativity in shaping our world. The second tour took them back to MCS to see the Light Up project, a celebration of our school’s centenary. The lighting designers from Elite Jump Production skilfully explained the technical details of the project, offering fascinating insights into the creative process. As the technical mastery of the lighting design was revealed, our students and staff felt a strong sense of pride and connection to the school’s heritage.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to ARUP’s Director Dr Young Wong and his dedicated team, as well as Mr Lester Wong and Mr Priman Lee from Elite Jump Production, and our distinguished alumna Ms Florence Lam for their warm hospitality and invaluable contributions. Their expertise, passion, and generosity made this workshop an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
