In July, the Catholic Society of Maryknoll Convent School (Secondary Section) and Wah Yan College, Hong Kong (WYHK) co-organised “Wah Yee Summer School,” a five-day programme in which around 40 volunteers from both schools served over 50 primary school students from Sham Shui Po through providing an array of courses.

Prior to the programme, the student volunteers underwent weeks of training and planning to get ready for the actual summer school. With seamless teamwork, the student volunteers creatively and systematically designed various interesting courses, such as fireless cooking, K-pop dancing, little vlogger, and critical thinking, to cater for the diverse interests of the primary school students.

The summer school began on 18 July with a mini funfair held in our school, during which a number of game booths were set up to welcome the primary school students. The other four days of the programme were hosted at WYHK, with a graduation ceremony specially conducted on the fifth day.

Not only did this project provide our students with an opportunity to serve, but it also helped them acquire useful life skills and gain wonderful memories from the time spent with young children and their peers.
