We were honoured to have hosted the Hong Kong Laureate Forum 2025 School Dialogue: Inspiring the Young Future on 7 November 2025 at our school Hall. The event featured four Shaw Laureates and a visit from Ms May Chan, Permanent Secretary for Education, who gave an opening speech and talked about the importance of science in education. The Laureates — Prof John Peacock (Cosmology), Prof Steven Balbus (Astrophysics), Prof Wolfgang Baumeister (Biophysics), and Prof George Lusztig (Mathematics) — shared their groundbreaking research and personal journeys into science with more than 200 students from 11 local schools joining the occasion. Our Foundation Chairperson, Cordelia Chung, also supported us and attended the event.

A central theme of the dialogue was how they became scientists. They universally advised students to ‘follow their heart and passion’, stressing that a genuine love for their field was the true driver of their success. They cautioned that consciously striving for ‘success’ can be counterproductive; instead, passion, curiosity, and dedication to solving interesting problems are what lead to meaningful achievements.

The laureates later visited our Biology Lab, where our students confidently presented their university-collaborative research projects. These included innovative work on mealworm decomposition and sustainable soya bean cultivation, which demonstrated the practical application of scientific principles and impressed our distinguished guests. Notably, one of the astronomers strongly encouraged teachers to provide hands-on experiences, such as using real telescopes and attending astronomy camps, so students can experience the wonder of the actual sky, not just the virtual world. Some of our students were also interviewed by reporters.

The event was a magnificent celebration of scientific inquiry and a powerful inspiration for the next generation of innovators.
