Field Trip to Hunan: Hybrid Rice, Agriculture, and Culture
From 26 to 29 July, a group of twelve Form 5 and 6 Biology students and two teachers embarked on a trip to Changsha, Hunan, organised by Soyvestors Limited.
Under the guidance of Professor Lam Hon Ming, a renowned biologist and the Director of the State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the students visited relevant agricultural research institutions.
The trip aimed to provide students with a deeper understanding of agricultural development and food security in China, and to inspire them with the spirit of dedication to science and benefiting humanity exemplified by Academician Yuan Longping. A key focus of the trip was to learn about Yuan Longping’s hybrid rice technology and its significant contributions to food security in China and the world. In addition, the students gained insights into stress- tolerant soybeans and explored Hunan’s rich culture.
On 5 October, the students gathered at CUHK for a presentation session, sharing how the scientists they encountered inspired them. The session was a valuable opportunity for the students to reflect on their learning and share their knowledge with others.
The field trip was also reported in several online articles. Please refer to the links for more detailed reports on the trip:
