Art exhibition - Art of War: Chinese woodcuts from Yan'an ca. 1944

In partnership with the Art Museum of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, our school is putting on display 19 woodcut prints from Yan'an ca.1944 at the foyer from 4 May 2019 to 18 May 2019. This is the very first time these exhibits have been loaned to a secondary school. The prints were created by Chinese artists during WWII to depict wartime Yan'an and to arouse patriotism, comradery and the spirit of unity against foreign aggression.

We were very honoured to have invited Professor Josh Yiu, Director of the Art Museum at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Professor Mayching Kao, a Maryknoller and the Former Director of Fine Arts of The Chinese University of Hong Kong to officiate the opening ceremony of our exhibition on 4 May 2019. Two talks were conducted after the opening ceremony to help us better appreciate the exhibits. The first one, which was about the history of Yan'an during wartime, was conducted by Mr. Aloysius Lee, our former panel head of History and English. The second one, which was about the art of Chinese woodcut printing, was conducted by Mr. Yan Kwong Yuen, our current panel head of Visual Arts.

The exhibits will be on display at our school foyer until 18 May 2019 (Sat). The opening hours are as follows:

Monday to Friday: 4:00 pm-6:00 pm
Saturday: 9:00 am-12:00 pm
Closed on Sundays and Public Holidays

Don't miss this precious opportunity to learn more about the history and culture of wartime Yan'an!
